Advisor Code FAQ
What is an Advisor Code (AC) and why do I need one?
An Advisor Code (AC) is a unique four-digit number required to access Phase I TeleBears for the following semester.
- ACs are required by all students who are declared or will have reached 75 units (including all coursework in progress, but not including AP units) by the beginning of the next term.
- ACs provide a chance for students to connect with an advisor in their major (or intended major) each semester to make sure students are on track towards graduation.
Please Note: Students must obtain a new AC for each semester! You may not use one obtained previously.
Where do I get my Advisor Code?
IB majors and intended majors should seek an AC from the IB Undergraduate Advising Office in 2033 VLSB. All ACs must be obtained in person! (The only exception is made for students studying abroad—see below: "What do I need to bring in order to obtain my AC?" for more details.)
When do I get my Advisor Code?
ACs are available as soon as Phase I appointments are visible on TeleBears—generally around the eighth week of instruction. It is always best to get your AC as early as possible! Students who wait until the day of their Phase I appointment will face long lines in the Undergrad Advising Office.
What do I need to bring in order to obtain my Advisor Code?
IMPORTANT! AC time is extremely busy for the Undergrad Advising Office—we expect all students to be prepared when visiting us to obtain ACs! Please read ALL pertinent info below and bring ALL required documents—we reserve the right to turn away unprepared students until all documents are completed.
Required documents vary between declared and intended students, so please make sure to read the info below that is relevant to YOU:
- Declared IB majors: In order to obtain your AC, you must bring a completed Advisor Code Form and a current transcript.
- IB majors Studying Abroad: Declared IB students who are studying abroad are the ONLY students who may obtain their AC by email. In order to do so, study abroad students must complete the Advisor Code Form and email it as an attachment to Flannery AND Nancy, or must embed the information requested on the Advisor Code Form in the body of the email.
Please Note: Given how hectic the Undergrad Advising Office is during AC time, we cannot guarantee that all study abroad students will receive their AC by their Phase I appointment time. In order to minimize any delay, please send your Advisor Code Form to us as soon as possible! - Intended IB majors: In order to obtain your AC, you must show us that you are eligible to declare the major, or will reach eligibility within one semester from the current semester. You must also show us a reasonable plan for completing the upper division coursework for the major. Therefore, we require a completed IB Major Checksheet. (All info regarding eligibility for the major can be found here). Bring a completed Advisor Code Form and a current transcript.
